Student team creates VR platform to enhance school education

23 Nov 2025 GUtech student team Ourcore creates VR platform to enhance school education By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – A student team from German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) has designed a virtual reality (VR) learning platform that aims to make classroom lessons more interactive and accessible. Developed by team ‘Ourcore’, the innovation uses smart glasses and mobile devices to present school subjects through immersive visual content.

The project is being implemented under the Scientific Incubator Programme, funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, which supports youth-led innovations in the sultanate.

The platform converts conventional lessons into animated, three-dimensional learning experiences. Using smart glasses, tablets or smartphones, students can navigate scientific concepts using virtual and augmented reality. It is targeted at students in grades four to eight.

According to Ourcore, the platform is designed to improve understanding by offering a visual approach to complex topics. It offers both free and paid content options, and teachers can assign specific modules using individual access codes.

Pilot testing in selected scho-ols is being prepared, with student and teacher feedback to be incorporated before wider rollout.

The project has already been recognised nationally, placing among the top 30 university-level teams in the 2023 Injaz Oman competition.

Ourcore is led by Rayan al Hashmi, a computer science student at GUtech, with team members Zena al Hashmi, an accounting and finance student at Leeds Beckett University, and Farah al Falahi, also specialising in computer science at GUtech.
