Muscat – The Oman Society for Writers and Literati announced on Tuesday the launch of the third edition of its Literary Creativity Award for School Students (2025–2026) at its headquarters in Airport Heights.
The initiative, held under the patronage of H E Dr Abdullah Khamis Ambusaidi, Undersecretary for Education, aims to inspire young talent across the sultanate by promoting creativity, reading, and appreciation for literature.
Speaking at the ceremony, H E Dr Ambusaidi highlighted the strong partnership between the Ministry of Education and the Society. He noted that the award enriches the educational environment and encourages creativity and critical thinking.
“Student participation has grown steadily, rising from about 1,500 in the first edition to over 3,000 in the second, underlining its significance in nurturing literary talent among the younger generation,” said H E Dr Ambusaidi.
Said Mohammed al Saqlawi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Society, described the award as a platform for students to showcase their skills across various literary fields. “The award provides a stimulating environment for young writers to explore poetry, short stories, literary analysis, and public speaking,” he said.
The competition is open to students from government and private schools, including those with special needs. It covers multiple age groups and disciplines, ranging from poetry recitation and classical Arabic poetry writing to short story composition, literary text analysis, and public speaking.
Top winners in each category at the national level will be honoured, and their works will be published in a special edition by the Society.
With its rising popularity, the Literary Creativity Award has become an important cultural and educational initiative, inspiring school students across the country to embrace creativity and celebrate the richness of Arabic literature.
