Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman has voiced strong condemnation and deep concern over the recent escalation in tensions following direct aerial bombardments carried out by the United States on sites in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In an official statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Saturday, Oman denounced what it described as an ‘illegal act of aggression’, calling for an immediate and comprehensive de-escalation to prevent further instability in the region.
The ministry warned that such actions risk broadening the scope of the conflict and represent a serious violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force and affirms the principle of respect for national sovereignty.
Oman reiterated its longstanding position in support of peaceful dialogue and diplomacy, and affirmed Iran’s legitimate right to develop nuclear programmes for peaceful purposes. This, the statement noted, must be done under the supervision and monitoring of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in accordance with international agreements and protocols.
The ministry further highlighted that the Geneva Conventions and related international treaties strictly prohibit the targeting of nuclear facilities due to the grave risks of contamination and radiation.
Oman called on the international community to uphold international legal frameworks and intensify efforts to contain the crisis, preserve regional stability, and prevent the escalation of armed conflict.
