Muscat – Muscat continues to endure extreme temperatures reaching up to 46°C, but several interior regions of the sultanate witnessed rain between June 19 and 21, bringing temporary relief and causing wadis to flow.

Data from monitoring stations under Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources showed the highest rainfall was recorded in the wilayat of Al Qabil with 31mm, followed by Yanqul (24mm) and Mudhaibi (22mm). Jabal Akhdar recorded 20mm, while Suhar and Al Hamra both received 17mm. Other readings included Dima Wa al Taien (11mm), Izki (10mm), Nizwa (8mm), Bahla (7mm), Bidiyah (6mm), and Samail and Rustaq (5mm each).

In North Sharqiyah, Ibra experienced heavy to moderate showers in the villages of Al Haima, Waqfiyah, Al Khanadeq, Al Yahmadi, Al Safala and Al Alayyah, resulting in Wadi al Raki and nearby wadis beginning to flow. Mudhaibi witnessed rain in Samad al Shan, Al Rawdah, Al Wariyah and the Wadi Andam area, triggering Wadi Andam and other streams to flow.

In Dakhliyah, villages in the wilayat of Nizwa including Tanuf, Kummah, Al Rahba, Birkat al Mouz and Sumait witnessed rain, which resulted in Wadi al Rahba and surrounding streams to flow.

Yanqul in Dhahirah recorded heavy to moderate rain with thunderstorms and hail in mountain villages such as Al Waqbah, Al Arshi, Al Masarra, Baiha, Wadi al Hareem, Wal and Al Ma’eeden. This led to Wadi al Ma’eeden and Wadi al Arshi to flow.

Despite the precipitation inland, Muscat residents continue to face scorching temperatures with no immediate relief forecast for the capital.
