27 May 2025 ROP launches special licence plates for EVs

Muscat – Royal Oman Police (ROP) has announced the launch of special licence plates for electric vehicles (EVs) set to take effect from May 28, 2025.

In a statement, ROP said the initiative is aimed at distinguishing environmentally friendly vehicles by assigning these dedicated licence plates. ‘This is part of Oman’s commitment to building a more sustainable future and encouraging the adoption of cleaner transport alternatives,’ the statement added. It urged all EV owners and relevant stakeholders to take note of the update.

The move comes amid a regional push towards sustainability and cleaner transportation solutions. The GCC EV market was valued at nearly US$1.62bn in 2024 and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 22.3% between 2025 and 2034, reaching approximately US$10.44bn by 2034, according to a recent report by Research AndMarkets.com.
