Buriami – The Municipal Council of Buraimi governorate held its third meeting of the year on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Sayyid Dr Hamad bin Ahmed al Busaidi, Governor of Buraimi and the Chairman of the Council. The session focused on key developmental and heritage initiatives.
A presentation by the Heritage and Tourism Department outlined plans to rehabilitate the historic Harat Hamasa neighbourhood in the wilayat of Buraimi. The proposal aims to preserve the area’s heritage character while enhancing its historical value and tourism appeal.
Harat Hamasa covers a vast area, including two neighbourhoods and a market. It features two towers – one restored by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture in the southern section and another in the northwest.
The area also has two mosques, one of which has been rebuilt, and consists mainly of single-story houses, with two exceptions that have an additional floor.
The market within Harat Hamasa stands out for its architectural design, featuring a tower and several warehouses. Traces of pottery used for food preservation indicate a history of active trade and an advanced way of life. The layout and number of shops suggest that the area once thrived as a commercial hub.
The council also reviewed reports from its permanent committees. The Health and Environmental Affairs Committee proposed measures to improve health and environmental services, stressing the need for public awareness initiatives and service quality enhancements.
The Governorate Development Committee examined the progress of various development projects, calling for their implementation in line with sustainability and infrastructure standards.
The committee also underscored the importance of generating employment opportunities for locals.
