Muscat – H H Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Council of Ministers, met Luc Triangle, Secretary-General of International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), on Tuesday during his visit to Oman. Triangle attended the symposium ‘Towards a More Sustainable Social Dialogue’ organised by General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW).

During the meeting, H H Sayyid Fahd acknowledged ITUC’s efforts in fostering cooperation among trade unions globally. He reaffirmed Oman’s collaboration with ITUC through GFOW, highlighting its role in safeguarding workers’ interests, enhancing productivity, developing professional skills and improving workers’ capabilities.

H H Sayyid Fahd emphasised the sultanate’s commitment to supporting the three key stakeholders in the labour ecosystem – the government, represented by Ministry of Labour; business owners, represented by Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and workers, represented by GFOW. He noted that these efforts align with the objectives of Oman’s Labour Law, which seeks to improve work environments and conditions across various sectors.

The discussions also explored avenues for strengthening cooperation between Oman and ITUC, particularly in exchanging expertise to protect workers’ rights and support the country’s sustainable development goals.

Triangle appreciated the well-organised symposium, noting that Oman stands out as a leading country in regulating trade union operations and safeguarding workers’ rights. He highlighted the country’s proactive approach to fostering dialogue among labour stakeholders.
