Muscat – Oman and Cyprus signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation in maritime affairs and mutual recognition of maritime certificates on Monday.

The agreements were signed by H E Saeed bin Hamood al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Marina Hatgimanolis, Cypriot Deputy Minister of Maritime Transport.

The first MoU focuses on deepening bilateral collaboration in maritime affairs and promoting the development of the maritime sector while adhering to national and international legal frameworks. 

The second MoU establishes a framework for the mutual recognition of maritime certificates issued by both countries in line with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers of 1978. This agreement ensures that certificates held by masters, officers and radio operators from Oman and Cyprus will be recognised reciprocally, guaranteeing seafarers meet the highest standards of training, competence and operational efficiency.
