27 Jan 2025 Oman’s Ministry of Education launches AI-focused renewable energy competition for schools

Muscat – Ministry of Education (MoE) launched the seventh edition of the Petroleum Development Oman Renewable Energy Award on Monday focused on the theme ‘Artificial Intelligence in Energy Sustainability’ for the 2025–2026 academic year.

The award targets students of Grades 7 to 12 in public and private schools across Oman. A promotional film and posters in Arabic and English were unveiled during the launch to encourage participation. Following this, a registration link for the competition was made live, allowing students to submit entries in line with specified criteria.

This edition also introduces a competition for the best promotional campaign conducted by educational directorates in governorates to support participants, including remote training programmes and expert-led workshops aimed at guiding students and clarifying competition requirements.

The competition will be conducted in stages, beginning with the launch announcement and initial screening of submitted ideas, followed by an evaluation phase to select teams for the finals. Winners will be announced during Oman Sustainability Week at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in April 2026.

The award seeks to raise awareness among students about the importance of renewable energy as a viable alternative to fossil fuels, emphasising its role in reducing carbon emissions and addressing environmental challenges. It also aims to nurture students’ technical and problem-solving skills while encouraging innovative approaches to sustainability.

‘The award serves as a platform to inspire young minds to think creatively and apply artificial intelligence in developing solutions for energy sustainability,’ MoE stated.
