MHT warns hotels to display licence or face legal action

25 Jan 2025 MHT warns hotels to display licence, follow regulations or face legal action

Muscat – Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has issued a warning to hotel establishments across the sultanate, urging these to prominently display their tourism licences or face potential legal consequences.

In a statement, MHT said tourism licences must be clearly visible at the reception desk of all hotels. The same requirement applies to their official websites and social media platforms, ensuring transparency for guests and compliance with Articles 20 and 21 of the Executive Regulations of the Tourism Law.

The directive follows routine inspections which revealed that several hotels, regardless of classification, failed to meet this essential requirement. MHT stressed that adherence to regulations is critical to maintaining high standards within Oman’s hospitality sector.

The ministry called on hotel operators to take immediate action to ensure compliance and avoid legal measures. It further reminded licensed operators that they must align their operations with existing regulations to avoid complications.

For those considering entering the tourism sector, the ministry recommended using its official portal to ensure proper licensing and a smooth entry into the industry. MHT concluded the statement by emphasising that ensuring safety, security and quality starts with proper licensing and adherence to regulations.
