11 Jan 2025

Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik delivered a Royal speech on January 11 to mark the anniversary of his accession to the throne.

In his speech, His Majesty reflected on Oman’s history and expressed pride in the nation’s achievements under the leadership of the Al Busaidi family since 1744. He also announced that November 20 will be celebrated annually as Oman’s National Day.

“On this occasion, we honour our ancestors, and commemorate a glorious day in Oman’s history. We announce that November 20 will be a national day for the Sultanate of Oman,” His Majesty said.

The date marks the year 1744, when the founding Imam, Sayyid Ahmed bin Said al Busaidi, unified Oman, ensuring its sovereignty and the freedom and dignity of its people. His Majesty paid tribute to the Sultans who followed, recognising their courage and contributions in advancing the nation.

His Majesty concluded by urging all citizens to uphold the principles of truth, goodness, and dedication to the homeland.
