The 82nd Golden Globe Awards unfolded in spectacular fashion in Beverly Hills, California, celebrating the finest achievements in film and television from 2024. Often seen as a bellwether for the Academy Awards, this year’s Golden Globes, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, marked a historic moment as the first solo-hosted ceremony by a woman.

Film Highlights:
The French musical crime comedy Emilia Perez led the nominations with an impressive ten nods, including Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Director (Jacques Audiard), and Best Actress (Karla Sofia Gascón). The film clinched four major awards: Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldana), Best Non-English Feature, and Best Original Song, solidifying its position as a global sensation.

Close on its heels was A24’s critically acclaimed The Brutalist, directed by Brady Corbet. Garnering seven nominations, the film won three key awards: Best Motion Picture (Drama), Best Director (Brady Corbet), and Best Actor in a Drama (Adrien Brody), continuing A24’s streak of awards season dominance.

Indian cinema made waves with Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light, which received double nominations for Best Non-English Feature and Best Director. However, it fell short, losing to Emilia Perez in the former and to Corbet in the latter category.

Television Triumphs:
FX’s The Bear led the television nominations with five, securing wins for Jeremy Allen White as Best Actor (Comedy or Musical) and Jean Smart as Best Actress (Comedy or Musical).

Another FX series, Shogun, achieved a clean sweep, winning all four of its nominated categories, including Best Series (Drama), Best Actor (Hiroyuki Sanada), Best Supporting Actor (Tadanobu Asano), and Best Supporting Actress (Anna Sawai). Meanwhile, Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building garnered acclaim with four nominations but failed to secure any wins.

A Memorable Night:
The 2025 Golden Globes showcased an array of diverse stories and talents, celebrating the global impact of cinema and television. While Emilia Perez and The Brutalist dominated the film categories, and Shogun reigned supreme in television, the event also highlighted the growing prominence of non-English and independent films on the world stage.
