Muscat – Majlis a’Shura and Council of Ministers held a joint meeting at the latter’s headquarters on Tuesday with the aim of strengthening cooperation between state institutions in line with Oman’s Basic Law and the Law of the Council of Oman.

H H Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, welcomed H E Khalid bin Hilal al Ma’awali, Chairman of Majlis A’Shura, and Shura Office members. The meeting sought to establish shared perspectives to support Oman’s comprehensive development agenda.

At the start of the meeting, H H Sayyid Fahd praised the shura’s “constructive role” and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with the Council of Oman. He emphasised the fact that “giving due attention to the proposals of the Council of Oman remains a top priority for the Council of Ministers,” noting that its suggestions are integrated into the country’s economic and social plans and programmes.

H H Sayyid Fahd outlined the government’s approach for closer coordination with the shura. He highlighted the practice of ministers responding to shura requests to present ministerial statements on government policies and efforts. In addition, government officials are hosted by the shura to discuss issues related to the functioning of their respective departments.

As part of efforts to ensure transparency and facilitate dialogue, Council of Ministers has approved a system for government departments to make presentations before the shura. These sessions are intended to showcase the government’s initiatives to enhance performance in key economic sectors.

The meeting discussed a range of issues, focusing on strengthening cooperation between the government and shura, as well as raising public awareness of Oman’s national development efforts. Emphasis was placed on the role of the Joint Coordination Ministerial Committee, which supports collaboration between Council of Ministers and the shura, with the shared goal of improving services for citizens.

H E Ma’awali and accompanying shura members lauded the outcome of the meeting, expressing gratitude for the government’s engagement and commitment to inclusive decision-making. They pledged to continue supporting Oman’s development and welfare, stressing the importance of collective efforts in advancing the nation’s prosperity.

Shura to discuss temporary employment

Muscat – Majlis a’Shura will host H E Dr Mahad bin Saeed Baowain, Minister of Labour, on December 15, to discuss temporary employment initiatives. The session will address key aspects of government and private sector temporary work contracts. Topics on the agenda  include the outcome of these contracts, plans for their development and challenges faced in their implementation.
