Muscat – Oman Down Syndrome Association marked its 10th anniversary on Tuesday with a celebratory event at the Civil Aviation Club in Muscat.
Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Hamad al Jabri, Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors, said that the event celebrates a decade of the association’s commitment to supporting and empowering individuals with Down syndrome while promoting their integration into society.
The event featured a variety of recreational activities under the theme ‘Fun Corners’. These included a zip line, horse riding, games, competitions, and gift distributions, creating a vibrant, festival-like atmosphere.
A short visual presentation narrated the association’s journey since its establishment, and the event concluded with a ceremony honouring its founders.
Jabri informed that the association, as a non-profit charitable organisation, is dedicated to serving individuals with Down syndrome across Oman. It currently supports over 400 children and young people with the syndrome, along with 300 family members and supporters.
The association has established an integrated center equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for education, rehabilitation, and training, with the goal of fully integrating individuals with Down syndrome into society and raising awareness about their potential and capabilities.
A wide range of sports programmes are offered by the association, including horse riding, sailing, karate, basketball, football, swimming, snowboarding, and golf. Members have participated in numerous local and international competitions, earning multiple medals.
Additionally, the association provides Quranic lessons, including intonation and memorisation, and encourages participation in events organised by schools, universities, and other entities.
Jabri reiterated the association’s dedication to enhancing the status of individuals with Down syndrome, encouraging their active involvement in various aspects of life, and showcasing the unique talents that set them apart.
