Muscat – The ‘Letter Between Letters’ exhibition by Mohammed bin Mahdi al Lawati, currently held at Stal Art Gallery in Muscat, showcases the artist’s deep exploration of Arabic calligraphy. With 55 works on display until November 28, the exhibition features calligraphic artworks that encompass Quranic verses, hadiths, and classical Arabic poetry, blended with abstract styles. Each piece represents Lawati’s journey through the nuances of Arabic calligraphy and modern visual arts, created on canvas and paper using acrylics and ink.

In his second solo exhibition, Lawati describes this event as the culmination of a decade-long dedication to the art of Arabic lettering, evolving through both traditional and experimental approaches. He gained insights from artistic circles within Oman and abroad, enriching his techniques and perspective.

His works are celebrated for merging the beauty of Arabic script with contemporary artistic expression, making Arabic letters a primary focus in the visual arts. The exhibition reflects the enduring allure of Arabic calligraphy and its adaptability to cultural shifts, offering a unique artistic experience that honors tradition while embracing innovation.
