Muscat – Social Protection Fund (SPF) has begun distributing the Family Income Benefits on Wednesday, part of the government’s initiative to enhance citizens’ standard of living.
Ibrahim bin Mahmoud al Baridi, Director of Communication and Media at SPF, announced that the fund has initiated the process of disbursing financial support to 79,000 families registered in the programme’s first phase.
These families, previously supported by the Ministry of Social Development, will now receive assistance through this benefit, replacing traditional social security pensions.
Baridi noted that among the 79,000 social security cases transferred from the Ministry of Social Development, 25,000 have registered for the Family Income Benefits, with 12,732 cases meeting the eligibility criteria.
He informed that the registration for the remaining eligible categories will open in October and continue until the end of 2024. Some registered cases may require data corrections, and the SPF will reach out to these individuals via text messages, he assured. “The SPF’s mission is to provide comprehensive social protection to ensure a decent life for all members of society, aiming to guarantee access to essential support systems and fostering a foundation for dignified living,” said Baridi.
