Muscat – Oman’s healthcare sector took a significant step forward with the opening of Al Mazyouna Hospital in Dhofar governorate, a major development in line with Oman Vision 2040.

The hospital, part of the Ministry of Health’s ongoing efforts to decentralise healthcare services and improve access to specialised care across the country, was inaugurated on Tuesday.

The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of H H Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and was attended by Dr Hilal Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health, along with other senior officials.

Covering an area of 13,649sqm and costing over RO15mn, the hospital will provide a wide range of healthcare services to both citizens and residents in the region. The facility houses clinics for general medicine, internal medicine, paediatrics, surgery, dentistry, ENT, ophthalmology and gynaecology, among others. It also features an expanded immunisation programme clinic.

The wards of the 50-bedded hospital have been divided among male and female internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, and surgery. Additionally, it has critical care units for both adults and newborns, an emergency department, a dialysis unit, a delivery room, and an operation theatre.

The hospital’s diagnostic services include a radiology department with both CT scan and X-ray facilities, as well as a central sterilisation unit, a medical warehouse and other support services.

Dr Ali Abdullah al Muqbali, Director General of Health Services in Dhofar, highlighted the importance of the hospital, noting that it would significantly enhance healthcare quality in the region. “Al Mazyouna Hospital is only the second major hospital in the governorate, after Sultan Qaboos Hospital. It will play a key role in reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for medical care.”

Eng Yusuf Ya’qub Amboali, Advisor to the Minister of Health for Engineering Affairs, added that the new hospital reflects the Ministry of Health’s strategy to improve healthcare infrastructure and provide specialised services closer to local communities.

He stressed that the hospital was built to match modern standards, ensuring a high level of care in a comfortable environment.

The addition of Al Mazyouna Hospital brings the total number of healthcare institutions in the wilayat to six, contributing to the 45 institutions serving the entire Dhofar governorate.

The facility is expected to serve as a crucial hub for healthcare in the region, offering both primary and specialised medical services in line with the growing needs of the population.
