29 Jul 2024 By

Abu Dhabi – The General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) of the United Arab Emirates has awarded its first official lottery licence to The Game LLC, which will operate under the name ‘UAE Lottery’.

This move marks a significant step in establishing a well-regulated commercial gaming sector in the UAE, emphasising transparency, accountability, consumer protection, and responsible gaming practices.

As reported by the state news agency WAM, The Game will offer a diverse range of lottery games catering to various player interests and financial preferences. While a launch date has not been provided, further details are expected soon.

Jim Murren, Chairman of the GCGRA, highlighted this as a pivotal event for creating a disciplined regulatory framework for lottery activities. Kevin Mullally, CEO of the GCGRA, stressed on the commitment to global best practices and consumer protection, ensuring the integrity and fairness of gaming activities.

The GCGRA’s comprehensive regulatory framework protects consumers and stakeholders, making unapproved commercial gaming activities illegal with severe penalties for violators.

It’s expected that the GCGRA will also regulate the introduction of ‘licensed gaming’ in the UAE. With the upcoming Wynn Marjan – slated to open in 2027 – set to feature a casino, this is but the first step in changes soon in the field of ‘gaming’.
