29 Jul 2024

Paris, France – Oman’s young swimmer Issa al Adawi is keen to put up a strong show in his second Olympics in Paris on Tuesday.

Al Adawi will compete in the 100metre freestyle event at Paris La defense Arena. The 22-year-old will feature in the second heats of the preliminary rounds alongside top swimmers including Libyan Youssef Abubakr, Estonian Nixon Hernandez and Tanzanian Kolios Salibuko.

There are ten heats in total, with 16 swimmers with the best timing progressing to the semifinals which will take place on the same day during the evening session. The finals will take place on Thursday.

At Tokyo 2020 Al Adawi finished the 100-meter freestyle in sixth place with a time of 51.81 seconds in the preliminary rounds of Group 3 and he will be keen to put up a better show in Paris.

“This Olympic participation follows three years of significant developments in my technical and preparatory programme,” said Al Adawi.

“The training programme was very intensive and went over long and regular periods to reach optimal readiness. I will be looking for a quick sprint in the first 25 meters and will follow the coach’s directions who divided the 100-meter freestyle into four parts focusing on specific technical aspects in each 25 meters,” he said

Coach Amer Bin Rokia said Al Adawi will eye for a strong showing. “He is now in better physical and technical shape in comparison to this previous Olympics participation.

This indicates that he has improved significantly since the last Olympics making him well-prepared for a remarkable Olympic presence. He took part in the World Aquatics Championships in a 25-meter pool last February in Doha and has dedicated himself to training after the academic year. He is resuming daily warm-up sessions. This preparation aims to enable him to achieve new personal and record-breaking times,” the Tunisian coach added.
