Muscat – Dualisation of the Haima-Thumrait highway, a lifeline between Muscat and Dhofar, is nearing final stages of being awarded and implemented, according to H E Khamis al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport in Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
H E Shamakhi stated that the technical analysis of the Haima-Thumrait road dualisation project is complete, and financial analyses are underway. “The project, spanning 400km, is in its final stages of awarding and implementation.”
The ministry had announced the tender for the Haima-Thumrait road project in June 2023. The Adam-Haima-Thumrait highway stretches 717.5km, of which only 280km – Adam to Haima – are currently dualised.
The highway is divided into three sections: Phase 3 from Haima to Maqshin, a distance of 132.5km; Phase 4, connecting Maqshin to Dawkah via Qitbit, a distance of 135km; and Phase 5 from Dawkah to Thumrait, covering a distance of 132.7km.

Dhofar has several vital road projects under implementation, and designing and awarding stages. These projects aim to enhance the road network in the governorate’s wilayats, including Dhalkut, Al Mazyouna, Maqshan, Rakhyut, Salalah and Thumrait.
H E Shamakhi highlighted the Arjot-Sarfit road project in Dhalkut, which involves slope stabilisation. Currently 79% complete, project completion is expected by the end the year at a cost of RO11mn.
In reference to the Harweeb-Al Mazyouna-Miten road being built at a cost of RO30mn, he informed that the project is 15% complete.
