In an expected landslide win, the left leaning Liberal Democrats won the UK elections. Rishi Sunak conceded defeat and accepted responsibility for the Conservative Party’s catastrophic general election defeat.
Keir Starmer is now set to be the next Prime Minister of the UK. In a celebratory event addressing the media and public, he promised to help Britain “get its future back” and claimed a “mandate to relight the fire” after difficult years of economic crisis and hardship.
Sunak is soon expected to visit Buckingham Palace, meet King Charles III and hand in his resignation. Starmer is also expected to declare his cabinet and visit King Charles later in the day to formally ask to form a government.
