Trial operations of new fruit, vegetable market in Khazaen begins

Barka – Trial operations of Silal – Fruit and Vegetable Central Market in Khazaen Economic City began on Saturday, marking another step of the sultanate towards food security. This follows the relocation of operations from Mawaleh Central Market for Fruits and Vegetables.

Khazaen Economic City in Barka has stressed on the market’s role as a pivotal platform for  marketing, exporting, importing and re-exporting of fruits and vegetables. It serves as a vital outlet for local agricultural produce, benefiting both agricultural companies and local farmers.

Salem bin Sulaiman al Dhahli, CEO of Khazaen Economic City, described the market as a national project that enhances Oman’s position in the fruits and vegetables marketing and production sector. “The market provides investment opportunities with local added value,” he stated. 

The market features several integrated facilities that will significantly develop the food logistics sector. 

Mawaleh market to serve retail customers

Meanwhile, Muscat Municipality has assured customers that Mawaleh Central Market for Fruits and Vegetables will continue to provide services without interruption to retail customers. 

Light vehicles can enter the market through Gate No 2 from Saturday to Thursday between 6am and 10pm.
