EA calls on firms to obtain licences for waste management

19 May 2024

Muscat – The Environment Authority (EA) issued a notice on Sunday to all institutions and companies involved in the collection and transportation of waste in Oman.

In a statement, EA emphasised that all waste collection and transport companies must obtain the necessary licences from the Environment Authority and comply with its requirements. It is not permissible to transfer or sell waste from recycling institutions and companies that are not licensed by the Authority. Furthermore, EA stressed the importance of correctly storing the waste to avoid any environmental pollution.

Institutions and companies dealing with hazardous waste must obtain specific licences for hazardous waste management – transportation and collection. These entities are required to register in the National Waste Management Registry System at the following link:

The quantities collected and transferred must be disclosed quarterly through the mentioned system. Additionally, the party receiving the waste must be disclosed and must register the produced waste in the system, in accordance with Article No 7 of Decision No 15/2021.

The EA also stated that waste must not be disposed of or exported except in accordance with the procedures stipulated in Decision No 15/2021. The Environment Authority must be provided with information on the transferred quantities and the institutions and companies receiving these quantities from January to April 2024, EA stated.

‘The Authority will take all necessary legal measures against violators in accordance with the law and decisions regulating these measures,’ it concluded.
