8 May 2024 By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Muscat Municipality is in the final stages of completing the dualisation of Halban Street, with the project 99% complete. Expected to be fully operational in the next few months, this project aims to enhance traffic safety and ease congestion in the region.

The dualisation project, considered one of the most important currently undertaken by the municipality, will significantly improve traffic flow and safety on Halban Street. It involves creating a dual carriageway spanning 1,450m from the Muscat Expressway intersection (IC16) to the entrance of Al Mabelah 8.

The project also includes constructing a traffic signal-controlled intersection at the entrance of Al Mabelah 8 to offer a smooth and efficient flow of vehicles to the surrounding regions. Service roads will provide direct access to residential areas, while the rainwater drainage system will be improved to prevent flooding.

Other features include building 20 box culverts across the wadi in the area and side drainage waterways to channel rainwater. Furthermore, the project incorporates modern traffic safety requirements, including protection, lighting, iron barriers, and regulatory traffic signage.

The Halban Street dualisation project is expected to solve the increasing traffic congestion issues in the region and improve road safety for commuters and residents alike.
