Muscat – H E Sayyid Badr Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, received Dr Abdullatif Rashid al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the two sides underscored the historical ties binding Oman and Bahrain. They also discussed the agenda of the joint committee’s upcoming session to be held in Oman this year.

The two countries plan to sign new agreements and memoranda of understanding with the primary objective of boosting cooperation and pushing ties towards wider horizons.

In light of the 33rd Arab Summit which Bahrain will host on May 16, H E Sayyid Badr expressed Oman’s confidence in the success of the summit in producing constructive results that serve regional interests, and reflect the directives of Arab leaders and the aspirations of the peoples of the region for security and peace for all. 

H E Sayyid Badr also affirmed that Oman is confident the summit will pass resolutions for the benefit and prosperity of the region and boost joint and constructive Arab action. 

The two sides also reviewed regional developments and stressed the importance of de-escalation. In this context, the two ministers reiterated that emphasis should be laid on ceasefire efforts in Gaza to reach a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian crisis based on the two-state solution in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The meeting was attended by Sayyid Najeeb Hilal al Busaidi, Acting Head of the GCC and Regional Department, H E Dr Juma Ahmed al Ka’abi, Ambassador of Bahrain to Oman, and several Foreign Ministry officials.

Discussion with Serbian counterpart 

H E Sayyid Badr reviewed aspects of bilateral cooperation with Ivica Dacic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, in a telephonic conversation on Wednesday. They also discussed ongoing efforts to finalise an agreement on avoidance of double taxation between Oman and Serbia.

The ministers also discussed several regional and international matters and stressed the importance of advocating dialogue, while espousing constructive consultation to find tangible solutions for the realisation of stability and peace for all.
