Muscat – During the recent five-day Eid al Fitr holiday, Oman National Transport Company – Mwasalat – transported more than 89,000 passengers. According to a statement from Mwasalat, over 85,000 passengers utilised its bus services, while more than 4,000 passengers were transported via its ferry services from April 9 to April 13. On the second day of Eid, over 23,000 passengers rode its buses.

Mwasalat informed that Route 1 (Ruwi-Mabela) was the most popular, with over 14,800 passengers availing this bus service. Among its ferry services, the Shannah-Masirah route saw significant usage, transporting more than 3,500 passengers.

The ferry services also played a crucial role in transporting goods, with Mwasalat transporting 932 vehicles and more than 506.7 tonnes of goods. 

Mwasalat attributes these figures to robust marketing activities and continuous efforts to enhance efficiency of services. The company firmly believes customer satisfaction is the key to its achievements.

Mwasalat experienced significant growth in passenger numbers in 2023 compared to 2022. The company transported over 4.5mn passengers, a 40% increase over the 2022 figure when it served 3.2mn passengers.

With over 11,700 daily passengers, Mwasalat’s buses transported 4,271,732 passengers across the sultanate, compared to over 3mn in 2022. Its ferry service transported over 236,986  passengers in 2023 compared to 221,000 in 2022.

Omanis made up 32.5 % of the passengers availing its bus services, while on ferries they accounted for 79.7 % of the total. Female passengers availing buses accounted for 13.5% and 21% on ferries.

Mwasalat’s ferries transported over 61,000 vehicles, while buses transported more than 23,000 tonnes of goods.
