‘Crew’ review – In the red

3 Apr 2024 crew review By HUBERT VAZ

Bollywood movie review: Crew

Genre: Comedy

Starring: Kareena Kapoor, Tabu, Kriti Sanon

Crew is a 2024 Indian Hindi-language heist comedy film directed by Rajesh A Krishnan and starring Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kriti Sanon as air hostesses. Diljit Dosanjh and Kapil Sharma portray supporting roles.

Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, and Digvijay Purohit under Balaji Motion Pictures and Anil Kapoor Films and Communication Network, the story is about three diligent friends working as cabin crew for Kohinoor Airlines. Their peaceful lives take a turn when they are unexpectedly caught in a difficult situation orchestrated by someone with ulterior motives.

Considering the star cast, one would enter with great expectations, only to be disappointed. The crux of the issue lies in the narrative’s inability to sustain momentum. While the first half promises excitement and intrigue, the second half disappointingly falls flat. The movie lacks depth, is badly handled, and fails to deliver any anticipated thrills.

The individual backgrounds of each of the three actors hardly props up their characters or asserts their unscrupulous behaviour in any way. The director tries to portray them as modern and liberated only by way of using unwanted expletives, enjoying drinks and cigarettes, as if that’s the sum total definition of the current day smart female professional.

One tries to draw parallels with current affairs and the plight of Kingfisher Airlines staff, who were left in the lurch by their fraudulent founder Vijay Mallya – the guy’s called Vijay Walia in the film – so cool isn’t it? (pow wow!). The movie is devoid of humour, though you hear some laughs here are there over silly utterings. It also marks the end of career for…you know who!

You can happily give this one the miss…unless you have nothing better to do.
