Number of vehicles in Oman rose 4% to 1.66mn in 2023

Muscat – The total number of vehicles registered in the sultanate in 2023 was 1,667,393, an increase of 4% compared to 2022, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

Private vehicles constituted 79.6% – or 1,326,587 – of the total vehicles registered.

Vehicles of 1,500cc to 3,000cc engine capacity constituted 54% of the registrations, totalling 902,244.

Among vehicle colours, white was the most preferred in the sultanate, comprising 42.7% or 712,073. Vehicles of the colour purple showed the highest increase (21.6%), followed by the colour grey (10.9%).

Commercial registration vehicles constituted 14.7% or 244,486, rental cars accounted for 2% or 33,861, and taxis 1.7% or  27,881. Based on vehicle weight, the number weighing less than three tonnes was 1,510,013, comprising 90.6% of the total registered vehicles in 2023.
