Muscat – The Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) addressed 523 cases in 2023 through collaboration with relevant parties, providing legal guidance and directing individuals to authorities for further action, according to its latest report.

The commission engaged in civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights cases, totalling 65 communications, while offering opinions on 458 human rights issues.

OHRC conducted field visits across various governorates, including inspections at the central prison and detention centres to review the condition of inmates and detainees.

‘The release of 864 inmates last year, following Royal Orders, positively influenced their social reintegration,’ OHRC stated.

Additionally, the commission actively monitored international governmental and non-governmental reports on the human rights situation in Oman and responded to inquiries from the United Nations special rapporteurs, ensuring compliance and dialogue on human rights standards.

OHRC also enhanced its outreach through educational seminars and forums aimed at raising awareness across different societal segments. Participation in international conferences further extended its engagement in global human rights discussions.

As part of its accountability, the commission prepares an annual report detailing its efforts and activities. This report was published in accordance with Article No 16 of the OHRC’s system.
