Muscat – Jokha al Harthi, arguably Oman’s most recognised contemporary author, has been shortlisted for one of the most prestigious literary awards in the region.
Her latest book Al-Jasad fi al-Ghazal al-Uthri (The Body in Arabic Love Poetry), translated from English to Arabic by Zuwaina al Tuwiya, is on the longlist for the Sheikh Zayed Book Award (SBZA).
The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre announced the longlists for key categories, including Translation, Literary, Art Criticism and Contribution to the Development of Nations categories for the 18th edition of SZBA last week.
SBZA received the highest number of submissions in its history for the current edition, with 4,240 nominations submitted from 74 countries, including 19 Arab nations and 55 other countries around the world. Alongside Jokha, the longlist for the Translation category includes 11 titles from seven Arab countries.
