Tej dumps 261mm of rain on Rakhyut

Muscat – Rakhyut in Dhofar recorded 261mm of rainfall over three days, the highest in the sultanate as a direct impact of tropical storm Tej. 

Heavy to moderate rains lashed several governorates from Sunday till Tuesday, according to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).In a statement issued on Tuesday, CAA said that the classification of Tej was downgraded from tropical storm to a tropical depression, with continued chances of rainfall of varying intensity in Dhofar on Tuesday.  

‘A number of wadis are in spate, while low cloud and fog hang over parts of Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates,’ it stated. 

The rain monitoring stations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) recorded 246mm of rainfall in Dalkhout, 88 mm in Salalah, 19mm in Sadah, 16mm in Mirbat and Hallaniyat Islands, and 4mm in Taqah, besides 261mm in Rakhyut.Meanwhile, the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) announced that rescue teams in Dhofar dealt with an accident in which a vehicle was stuck in mud in Shaath in the wilayat of Rakhyut. 

Most roads open

Eng Said Mohammed Tabuk, Director General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar Governorate, informed that most of the roads in the governorate that were affected by the tropical condition Tej have been reopened.

An exception was Argut-Ashikhart Road, which has been kept closed lest it might develop debris due to persistent rains.

Tabuk said that the teams of the Directorate General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar carried out the restoration operations in cooperation with private sector companies.

RAO commander follows up

Maj Gen Mattar Salim al Balushi, Commander of the Royal Army of Oman (RAO), visited the subcommittee for emergency management at the Border Guard Brigade’s headquarters in Al Wusta Governorate and the subcommittee for emergency management in Dhofar Governorate at the 11th Infantry Brigade’s headquarters in Dhofar Governorate, on Tuesday.

Maj Gen Balushi was briefed on efforts undertaken by the two military sub-committees to deal with the impact of the tropical condition Tej. He also visited the field hospital set up for the same purpose.

Basic Services Sector

The Basic Services Sector is working on restoring services in some wilayat of Dhofar, which were affected by the tropical condition. 

Abdullah Mubarek al Hashimi, Coordinator of Basic Services Sector, informed that field response teams worked on restoring several affected services in Dhofar, including reopening the Hadbeen-Hasik road in the wilayat of Sadah. While electricity supply has been restored in most areas of Dhofar, work was still underway on Tuesday evening to restore services in some disruptions. 

Medical support teams in Dhofar continue to provide services. The Ministry of Health activated a centre for emergency management in the governorate in line with the measures undertaken to alleviate the effects of the tropical condition.
