Muscat – The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) announces the lifting of the ban on kingfish fishing for this year, allowing its hunting and trading to begin starting Monday, October 16.
In a statement issued by MAFWR said, ‘The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources lifted the two-month ban on fishing and trading kingfish for the year 2023.’
By implementing the decision, the ministry aims to preserve stocks of kingfish and regulate fishing in order to achieve a balance between natural reserves and demand for the fish.
The ministry expresses appreciation to all the fishermen for their dedication throughout the prohibition period, spanning from August 15 to October 15. It underscores the significance of maintaining the sustainability of kingfish, adhering to the use of rational fishing methods, and ensuring a minimum permitted length of 65 centimeters.
