Muscat – In response to the directives from the Council of Ministers, the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) has decided to reduce the electricity charges for the residential category by 15%.
In a statement, ASPR said it has closely monitored the information circulating on social media platforms regarding the high electricity bills during the past summer months and the concerns raised about rising bills.
‘Commissioned by the Council of Ministers, the authority will conduct a comprehensive review of the costs of the electricity sector. This review aims to find alternatives and sustainable solutions to address the issue without affecting the quality of service provision during the summer months in the coming years,’ it added.
It further said that until this review is completed, a decision has been made to increase the previous reduction rate set on electricity bills for the residential category from 15% to 30% of the total bill value for all subscribers with basic and national subsidy accounts for July and August 2023.
