UTAS to open in Musandam in Jan 2024

16 Jul 2023

Muscat – The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) is set to launch its Musandam governorate branch in January 2024. Newly admitted students will initially enrol in a foundation year before commencing their academic programmes.

Dr Saeed bin Hamad al Rubaie, Vice-Chancellor of UTAS, informed that the decision to establish a branch in Musandam follows Royal Orders of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. It is part of efforts to develop the governorate, ensure sustainable growth and to foster skilled human resources across various sectors. ÒThis aligns with the university’s mission to cultivate a supportive environment for scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship that fuels knowledge creation, builds national capabilities and fosters robust partnerships with community institutions.

Rubaie anticipates that the new branch will contribute to workforce development, equipping graduates to meet the evolving needs of Oman’s development plans. The university intends to deliver quality education and training programmes that strengthen national identity, uphold social values and impart modern knowledge and skills required for the future to students.

He emphasised that the university has prioritised high-quality specifications for buildings and facilities, in line with international standards. Careful selection of technological equipment for the infrastructure, networks and devices will ensure compliance with the latest technology and electronic systems. This will facilitate efficient management, preservation and analysis of students’ data.

While construction of a new building is underway, initial classes for the academic year 2023/2024 will take place in a temporary facility in Khasab.
