24 May 2023

Muscat – The Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance (OAAAQA) of education has announced the official launch of the National Qualifications Framework in the Sultanate of Oman.

Set to take place on May 31, the event will be held under the patronage of Nasser bin Khamis al Jashmi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance.

Dr Jokha bint Abdullah al Shukaili, CEO of the authority, announced this during a press conference held at the authority’s headquarters on Wednesday.

The authority is responsible for governing, managing, and implementing the National Qualifications Framework as mandated by Royal Decree No 9/2021.

The National Qualifications Framework is an essential tool for classifying, comparing, and aligning national qualifications with international standards. It serves as a crucial component of education quality systems and positions Oman among 150 countries that have established their own national framework.

Dr Jokha said that the framework is designed in consultation with relevant authorities across educational and training sectors, and it encompasses a broad scope to support national economic and educational needs and fulfill various national goals.

The official ceremony to launch the framework will highlight the significant milestones achieved during its development and showcase the framework’s practical applications and substantial benefits to the country and its citizens, stated Dr Jokha.

Additionally, the authority will unveil its future implementation plan, she added.

Fakhriya al Habsia, Director General of National Qualifications Framework, announced that alongside the inauguration ceremony, electronic services related to framework implementation will be launched.

“The National Qualifications Register, an electronic system facilitating efficient procedures, will be showcased. This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to digitise services and streamline processes across all sectors.”

By launching the National Qualifications Framework, Oman is taking a vital step towards aligning its qualifications with international standards and ensuring the quality and relevance of its education system to meet national goals and global expectations.
