MTCIT issues first licence for truck parking yards in Liwa

Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has issued the first licence for ‘land transport yard’ in Oman in the wilayat of Liwa in North Batinah governorate on Wednesday.

The ministry granted the licence to Al Qalada International Trading and Contracting Company after it fulfilled the requirements for managing and operating land transport yard in the Sultanate.

A statement issued by MTCIT said, ‘The area of the licenced yard is estimated at about 30,000sqm, accommodating more than 250 types of land transport such as buses, trucks and heavy vehicles. The yard also serves several logistical areas such as the free zone, Sohar industrial city and Sohar Port.’

‘The ministry aims to issue this licence to regulate land transport facilities, to provide safe and equipped sites to accommodate land transport vehicles, and to limit truck parking in residential neighborhoods in the various wilayats of Oman.’

Meanwhile, the accommodation yards are outside the ports, industrial areas, and free zones that offer temporary accommodation services for drivers of land transport vehicles and provide various maintenance services for these transportation.
