Muscat Municipality plans summer festival

26 Apr 2023 By

Muscat – Following the success of festivals like Muscat Nights and Muscat Eats, Muscat Municipality is planning to hold a month-long summer fiesta starting June 28.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, a Muscat Municipality official said, “The municipality will hold a series of summer events from June 28 to July 28. The festival aims to stimulate commercial movement, create recreational activities for families and children, and provide job opportunities.”

With the festival, the municipality also wants to promote domestic tourism and support local industries by providing a space for social and cultural interaction, the official stated.

As a first step, the municipality has floated tenders inviting bids from interested parties for various events and entertainment activities, including decoration and designing of the festival site. “The events will be focused on children and families.”

According to the official, the festival site has not been finalised. “One site will be chosen from among Azaiba Beach, North al Hail or Sur al Hadid in Seeb.”

The summer festival is intended to encourage people to visit beaches and be close to nature, he added. “Our aim is to give an incentive to people to come out from their homes and engage in recreational activities on beaches. We are hoping that people will throng the venue and enjoy the games and other activities planned for the event.”

About the municipality’s work, he said the civic body is exerting efforts to provide avenues for public entertainment and to support domestic tourism.

The municipality held Muscat Festival, re-branded as Muscat Nights, after a gap of three years from January 19 to February 4, held at Qurum Park, Naseem Garden, Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre and Oman Automobile Association.
