Muscat – Ahad Foundation has provided financial support to the Fak Kurbah initiative organised by Omani Lawyers’ Association to secure the release of those imprisoned for debt.
The support by Ahad Foundation to the initiative aims to help a larger number of prisoners across governorates in the sultanate.
The charitable foundation in the name of Honourable Lady Sayyida Ahad bint Abdullah bin Hamed al Busaidi, Spouse of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, was announced in 2021 to support women, people with disabilities and those with limited income with a funding of RO1mn.
The foundation’s headquarters are in Muscat with activities in all governorates of the sultanate.
Besides promoting the values of citizenship, identity and patriotism, the foundation aims to provide and support social care initiatives and services for families and individuals, and also community empowerment initiatives.
The tenth edition of Fak Kurbah was launched last Friday. Omani Lawyers’ Association will conduct this edition under the theme ‘Because we believe that a person deserves a second chance’.
In 2022, the number of insolvent persons set free from jail by Fak Kurbah was 1,035, compared to 749 in 2021. The initiative has helped 4,969 insolvent individuals in all who were imprisoned or were about to be imprisoned.
