Festival to put spotlight on unique tourism experiences of Dakhliyah

Muscat – Dakhliyah Festival 2023 will be held from February 23 to March 4 at the archaeological site of Salut in Bahla.

An official at Dakhliyah Governor’s Office said, “The festival aims to support small and medium enterprises and introduce visitors to the cultural and historical heritage and tourist destinations in the governorate. It will contribute to increasing tourism and economic returns.”

About the activities of the festival, Haitham Mohammed al Ghassani, Director General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, said, “The festival will include a number of cultural, heritage, entertainment and adventure activities and programmes, as well as showcasing many tourism experiences that are unique to the governorate.”

He added that Nizwa Fort will host cultural and theatre shows and various competitions, while the wilayat of Bahla will witness the opening of Bisya and Salut Archaeological Visitors Centre with many accompanying events.

According to Ghassani, there will also be a tour of antique cars in Al Hamra, passing through farms, aflaj and historical monuments. “The tour will help visitors know about the neighbourhood, experience rural life, and enjoy the beautiful farms and palm plantations in the countryside. The ministry will also organise events and activities related to astronomy in Jabal Shams.”

The festival will include paragliding shows in Manah Public Park and various other activities in Bahjat Sumail Park and Izki Public Park.

A mountain race will be held in Al Ain and Al Sawad, traditional equestrian sports (al ardah) and a tent pegging competition in Adam, while a poetry evening and a camel show will be held in Bidbid.
