Muscat – Expats have been warned against selling chewing tobacco and prohibited cigarettes in the markets. The warning comes in the wake of video clips circulating on social media regarding the sale of chewing tobacco by a few expatriates in one of the wilayats.
A statement issued by the Consumer Protection ( CPA) said, ‘The authority followed the clip circulating on social media regarding the sale of chewing tobacco by some expatriates, which is a violation of Law No. 256/2105.’
‘The authority, in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police, arrested a large number of violators and seized 9,378 bags of chewing tobacco, with a total value of fines amounting to RO42,000 in 2022,’ it stated.
The authority urged everyone to fight this phenomenon to limit its spread in the society and to report any violations.
