EA gets OQ to finance three environmental projects

8 Jan 2023

Muscat – The Environment Authority (EA) signed three agreements with the OQ Group, a global integrated energy company, to finance environmental initiatives in the sultanate.

The first agreement is related to OQ’s Green Initiative, a project that aims to increase green areas by planting 250,000 tress as part of the national initiative for planting 10mn trees launched in January 2020.

The second agreement relates to supporting Al Saleel Natural Park in the wilayat of Al Kamil Wal Wafi in South Sharqiyah as part of the OQ’s belief in the importance of effective social engagement for the well-being of the society.

The third agreement is for supporting the initial response unit for oil pollution incidents in Musandam governorate.

This project falls under the OQ’s social investment programme as part of its approach aimed at promoting the efforts exerted to protect the environment and conserve natural resources.

Environment conservation is considered a pillar of the social responsibility programmes carried out by OQ, a press release stated.

The agreements were signed by H E Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of EA, and Tala bin Hamad al Awfi, CEO of the OQ Group.

“We appreciate the efforts exerted by OQ, whether it comes to complying with the national and international environmental frameworks and legislations in its operations or implementing environmental requirements in various operation sites,” H E Amri said.

He commended OQ’s contributions to the environment through its support to the efforts of the governmental authorities including EA in their initiatives for the conservation of the environment and Oman’s natural resources.

“The signing of these three agreements reflects OQ’s commitments towards conserving the environment in Oman considering that it is a pillar of OQ’s social investment programme,” Awfi said.

“It also embodies its social responsibility and the group’s belief in the importance of enhancing the governmental and social efforts aiming at implementing the initiatives that call for environment preservation and conserving natural resources.”

The OQ’s CEO asserted that his organisation “makes the environment a priority in every aspect of its operations and activities out of its belief in the importance of business sustainability”.

“It pays great attention to the necessity of striking a balance between achieving this sustainability and conserving natural and environmental resources.”

Awfi confirmed that OQ as a global integrated energy group, moves forward in implementing its policies that observe balanced environmental frameworks and support the initiatives that add value to the society.
