Sayyid Fahd leads Omani delegation to the 43rd GCC Summit

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The GCC Supreme Council congratulated His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik over Oman assuming the leadership of the 43rd GCC Summit and wished the sultanate success in boosting the GCC march in all spheres.

The council also commended Oman’s announcement endorsing the year 2050 as the date for achieving zero neutrality in carbon emissions. It underscored the pioneering step undertaken towards gradual transition to renewable energy by member states in order to improve environmental performance and mitigate the effects of climate change.

This was stated in a communiqué issued by the GCC Supreme Council at the conclusion of the 43rd session, held in Riyadh. On Friday, Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, headed the sultanate’s delegation at the summit.

In his opening speech, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, congratulated His Majesty the Sultan on Oman assuming the chairmanship of the 43rd Session of the GCC Supreme Council and wished His Majesty success towards this end.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman stressed that close cooperation among GCC states will lead to the accomplishment of the desired goals. He affirmed that the GCC states will remain a reliable source of energy in the world. He pointed out that Saudi Arabia intends to present a new vision for developing and consolidating GCC joint action.

He underscored the need to find a political solution to the Yemeni crisis and stressed the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the Arab Initiative, while calling for espousing joint action to address climate change.

The official delegation of the sultanate to the summit comprised Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Sa’eedi, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, Dr Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, Minister of Economy, Sayyid Faisal bin Turki al Said, Oman’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Abdullah bin Nasser al Rahbi, Ambassador of Oman to Egypt and its Permanent Representative at the Arab League, and other officials.
