Muscat – On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, received Duarte Pacheco, President of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), on Tuesday.
At the outset of the meeting, Sayyid Fahd lauded IPU’s role in cementing ties of friendship among countries. He underlined Oman’s keenness to support these endeavours to encourage dialogue to resolve global conflicts through peaceful means.
Sayyid Fahd also reviewed the march of Shura in Oman and its positive outcomes.
The meeting dealt with means of enhancing cooperation between IPU and the Council of Oman.
On his turn, Pacheco expressed his delight in visiting Oman, and seeing its landmarks and progress made in various fields. He underscored the world’s appreciation for the balanced policy espoused by Oman that has earned the sultanate the confidence and respect of all.
Pacheco also affirmed that his meetings with Omani officials during the visit would reflect positively on international cooperation.
In a separate meeting, Sayyid Fahd received Thabo Mbeki, former president of South Africa.
The meeting reviewed the advanced relations between Oman and South Africa and means of promoting these in various areas.
The two sides also reviewed developments in regional and international arenas.
