Zanzibar has promising sectors for investment: Dr Mwinyi

Muscat – Dr Hussain Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, met with a number of Omani and Zanzibari businessmen, on the sidelines of the Omani-Zanzibari Business Forum. This took place as part of his current official visit to Oman.

The forum, organized by Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel, aimed at strengthening trade and economic relations and contributing to raising rates of trade and investment exchange between the two sides.

The President of Zanzibar underscored the importance of the role of the private sector of both sides to enhance the Omani-Zanzibari economic relations by taking advantage of the investment potentials and opportunities available in Oman and Zanzibar.

He called on Omani businessmen to invest in the promising sectors that Zanzibar focuses on, such as tourism, the blue economy, oil and gas, and maritime trade, in view of the historical relations between Oman and Zanzibar.

H E Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said in his speech that Oman has taken many measures to attract foreign investments and focus on several lucrative sectors for economic diversification. These opportunities can be benefited by Oman and Zanzibar for greater economic cooperation.

On his turn, Eng Redha Juma al Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OCCI, said that organizing the forum aims at promoting trade and economic relations between Oman and Zanzibar, thanks to the potentials and enablers enjoyed by both sides.

He added that the statistics show that the volume of trade exchange between the Oman and the United Republic of Tanzania hit more than USD 182 million by the end of June 2022.

The forum included visual presentations highlighting the investment climate, incentives and procedures related to the business milieu in Oman and Zanzibar.
