Muscat – The Ministry of Education (MoE) has launched a competition in efforts to support nuclear science and technology awareness in secondary and higher education.
Called 2022/2023 Nuclear Science and Technology Education Competition for Students and Secondary Teachers, it is within the framework of the IAEA Technical Cooperation Project.
Nuclear science and technology (NST) plays a significant role in the achievement of several UN Sustainable Developmental Goals, especially in health and the environment, besides contributing directly to nine of the 17 UN SDGs.
The competition is open to students and secondary teachers from UN member states/territories in the Asia and the Pacific Region.
The competition aims to promote creative thinking in secondary-level students on how they see the role of NST in contributing to UN SDGs in tackling the global problem of plastic pollution in line with the IAEA’s NUclear TEChnology for Controlling Plastic Pollution (NUTEC Plastics) initiative.
The competition also targets post-secondary students, showing them how forging new partnerships and tapping into diverse funding sources can ensure maximum reach, impact and sustainability of IAEA initiatives.
Post-secondary-level students will submit business proposals to potential partners or donors for partnership in one of the IAEA’s strategic initiatives. Secondary-level teachers will be encouraged to creatively introduce NST to non-science students.
