Muscat – Continuing its charity initiatives, Dar al Atta’a has adopted the case of Abdullah and his family of 11, and other families, in the wilayat of Rustaq as part of the association’s Disaster Relief Programme.

Abdullah is a brave young man, living in difficult conditions and struggling to meet the medical requirements of his special needs siblings and old parents.

Abdullah and his family’s only source of income was a grocery store where he worked, which was completely damaged in the rains that hit Rustaq recently. Abdullah lost his livelihood as a result of the rains.

Dar al Atta’a visited Abdullah’s family and the shop, and found out that the family urgently needed medical help for his siblings, in addition to repairs in the shop.

The association promoted Abdullah’s case in its mobile application to collect donations, and with the support of the community, collected a significant amount within two days. The donations totalled RO16,500, which will be utilised to repair and restock the shop. A café attached to the shop will also be build.

In addition, efforts are being coordinated with Sultan Qaboos University Hospital for appropriate treatment for his family members.

Besides Abdullah’s family, Dar al Atta’a has supported five underprivileged families whose houses were damaged, providing five electrical appliances each as well as food rations and other supplies.

The association is also supporting seven families with house repair works after their homes were damaged as a result of heavy rains and overflowing wadis.

Dr Shamsa al Harthy, general manager at Dar al Atta’a, said, “Omani society always proves itself in these situations that it is a solid and self-supporting society. A person may think that with technological developments, society has become distant from one another. But God brings our society together every time we experience such adverse climatic conditions and other challenging situations in life. We look forward to continuing our efforts to support the underprivileged community and catering to their needs.”

She urged the public and private sectors to extend their support and work hand-in-hand with the association to sponsor its charity programmes.

Dar al Atta’a next drive involves a back-to-school theme. ‘Literacy is the main pillar for development of any nation. To encourage and help needy students go to school, Dar al Atta’a will sponsor 6,000 underprivileged students from across Oman with school meals, stationary and uniforms,’ a press release stated.
