24 Jul 2022 By

Muscat –The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has issued a Ministerial Decision No 473/2022 regulating the practice of home businesses.

The decision prohibits the practice of producing products at home for sale without obtaining a license from the ministry. It comes with the aim of streamlining home businesses that can be practised by citizens in their homes.

“These businesses are considered micro-projects to develop the income of its practitioners with the obligation to do so within the framework of home business licenses or the usual commercial registration. This will ensure the rights of the seller and the buyer alike,’ MoCIIP stated.

‘Everyone who engages in domestic productive work must adjust their conditions in accordance with the provisions of the attached regulation within six months from the date of its implementation,’ it added.

According to statistics, there are 9,092 registered home businesses in Oman.
