Muscat: Oman Cricket has announced the participation of the women’s national team in the ACC Women’s T20 Championship, scheduled to be held in Malaysia from June 16 to 30, 2022.
UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Nepal, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Myanmar and Bhutan will also compete in the 10-team tournament. The two finalists will qualify for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2022, joining regional heavyweights India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and hosts Bangladesh in October.
The competition is aligned with and borne out of the Asian Cricket Council’s vision for the development of Women’s cricket in the region. It was originally set to be held in June 2020, but was postponed because of COVID-19 pandemic. The Oman women’s national team’s previous tournament exposure at the international level came in the form of the GCC Women’s T20i Championship Cup held at the Oman Cricket Academy in March where Oman finished second behind the United Arab Emirates with four wins in five games.
