Muscat – A citizen has been arrested for logging without obtaining permission, according to the Environment Authority (EA).

A statement issued by the authority on Sunday said, ‘The Wildlife Protection Unit in Al Saleel National Park in South Sharqiyah arrested a citizen for logging without permission. Legal action has been taken against him.’

According to EA statistics, there were 20 violations of logging in 2019. The same year, 1,868, permits to cut firewood were issued, the vast majority of these being in North Batinah governorate (741), followed by Dhahirah (630), North Sharqiyah (158) and others.

The authority calls on everyone to cooperate and report any violations of wildlife via the hotline 80071999.
