Adam – Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, will preside over the concluding ceremony of the fifth edition of Al Bashayer Annual Festival for Arabian Camel Racing on March 5.

The six-day event will be held at Al Bashayer racecourse in Adam, Dakhliyah governorate. The race, which begins on February 28, includes 74 rounds with prizes for the winners ranging from cars (25 in all), a golden sword, a silver sword and cash prizes.

Dr Abdullah Salim al Junaibi, director general of Al Bashayer racecourse, informed that the importance of the festival lies in its position as one of the most important sporting events in the sultanate and the GCC. The event will see participation of contestants from Oman and the GCC.

Junaibi affirmed that the event will be held in accordance to the preventive measures set by the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from COVID-19.

The Al Bashayer Annual Festival for Arabian Camel Racing is affiliated to the office of Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan.

Earlier this week, Sayyid Asaad said, “We will be marking five years since the launch of the annual Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racing Festival in its new form, designed as part of the development and modernisation plan of the Al Bashayer racecourse.”
